On June 6, Under the lead of Mr. Mao, 8 students, from 5 countries, have been honored to be given a tour of the Mechanical & Electrical Engineering School, a premier innovator in the field of robotics among any educational institution in China. The school has enjoyed numerous awards and accolades year after year in national competitions.
After a short introduction, it was shown how the Institute has assisted the city of Ningbo with talents and technologies of subway lines. The designs of new stations are also tested here with a model train set. We were then shown a well-frequented workshop where different varieties of robots are built. A performance was given by a pair of Alpha Go robots which danced to popular Korean and American songs. Remote-controlled drones, similar to those flown by drone enthusiasts, were given a quick indoor demonstration.
After this, a collection of constructed battle droids were displayed. Multiple designs could be mounted on standardized armored foundations. One that stood out featured a sort of simplified mortar, shooting golf balls up to thirty meters.
A three-dimensional printer, another burgeoning technology, is capable of seamlessly producing a plastic object in a matter of hours. In addition, showcased was a laser cutter, capable of the most precise carvings in wood and plastic.
One thing that all students and faculty have in common is an anticipative desire to seek new advances in robotics technology. As components become cheaper it is possible to explore new and more varied avenues of research.
At last, students go to the golf field and play gold together, the whole activity ended in a happily atmosphere.
