To enhance international students' understanding of traditional Chinese culture and promote the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations between China and other countries, on the afternoon of April 16th, the International Students' Association of the Business School held a cultural experience activity themed "Introduction to Traditional Chinese Calligraphy" in Classroom 212. More than ten students from all over the world participated in this event. Under the guidance of the calligraphy teacher, they experienced the unique charm of traditional Chinese calligraphy firsthand.
At the beginning of the activity, the calligraphy teacher introduced the long history of Chinese calligraphy and the characteristics of different styles such as seal script, clerical script, regular script, running script, and cursive script, taking regular script as an example. Then, under the teacher's guidance, the international students enthusiastically practiced the correct pen-holding posture and brush-stroke techniques, and attempted to write sentences expressing their inner feelings and blessings such as "I love China", "I love Ningbo University", and "China is great" with a brush pen.
Danielle from India earnestly asked the teacher about the writing method of the poem "A pot of wine among the flowers, I drink alone with no one near". Through the horizontal, vertical, left-falling, and right-falling strokes of calligraphy, she deeply appreciated the elegance and profundity of the Chinese language. In addition, some international students also tried the unique techniques of Chinese ink painting. By learning the light and heavy, fast and slow brushstrokes and the control of ink density, they experienced the creative fun of the blending of ink and water, as well as the profound meanings behind Chinese paintings.
This calligraphy experience activity not only allowed the international students to closely feel the profound heritage of Chinese traditional culture, but also built a bridge of friendship for cross-cultural communication. The International Students' Association of the Business School will continue to organize a variety of cultural experience activities to enhance the adaptation and satisfaction of international students in China, and strive to guide them to become international talents with high moral standards, extensive knowledge, strong abilities, understanding of China, friendship towards China, and love for China, contributing more to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
